What is the National Feedout Program?

The National Feedout Program (NFP), now successfully in operation over 15 years, is an American Hereford Association (AHA) managed feedlot test that allows producers to individually measure the feedlot and carcass quality of their CHB eligible steers. Consignments of 5 steers or more are received at host feedyards in Kansas.

Can I get carcass data on my Certified Hereford Beef program cattle?
Carcass data is readily available through all CHB licensed plants. Group data, which includes the hot carcass weight, quality grade and yield grade of the entire harvest group can be requested by the feeder selling the cattle to the processing plant. Producers who wish to receive this data should request it from the feeder who has possession of their cattle. Certified Hereford Beef LLC does not distribute group carcass data without the consent of the packer and fed-cattle seller (feeder or retained owner).
Individualized carcass data can also be captured at the request of the seller of the cattle who is charged a per-head fee. The data provided is hot carcass weight, marbling grade, yield grade, rib eye area, fat thickness, percent internal fat, and an estimate of the percent retail product of each carcass. Having the data individualized allows the producer to draw conclusions about each individual animal and to marry the data with on-ranch production and pedigree records.
What is the Genetic Outreach Program?
The Genetic Outreach Program (GOP), now in its 12th year, is an American Hereford Association managed feedlot test that allows producers to individually measure the feedlot and carcass quality of their CHB eligible steers. The test takes place each December and February when producer consignments of 5 steers or more are received at host feedyards in Nebraska and Kansas The cost of participation is $50 per consignment.
